GHANDRUK TREK 07NT/8DAYS
The Annapurna region lies to the north of Pokhara and is the most popular trekking destination in Nepal. You will be walking through the Kali Gandaki Gorge, the deepest in the world, that slices an awesome path between the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna massifs, the 6th and 10th highest mountains on earth. Rhododendron forests give way to the desolate landscapes of the Tibetan plateau as you head north along the Kali Gandaki river valley and get behind the Annapurna range. The highest lake in the world, Tilicho (4,919 m), is here. The trek offers a fascinating cross-section of different, cultures and habitats. Birds like Himalayan griffons and mammals like rhesus monkeys, martens and weasels are commonly seen on the’trails.
This is a scenic and short trek which serves as an introduction to the classic Annapurna trail. We fly to Pokhara and transfer to New Bridge (Naya Pool) on the Pokhara-Baglung highway. From there, we start walking north following the course of the Modi Khola upstream to the Gurung village of Chandrung. Gurungs are one of the major groups that make up the British Gurkhas and have earned worldwide fame for bravery in battle. Crossing the Modi Khola river, we arrive at Landrung and turn south towards Dham and back to PPS Pokhara. The walk takes us along the trade route that winds up the Kali Gandaki river valley north to Mustang and on to Tibet. A panorama of the Annapurna range and glimpses of charming villages are the rewards of this trek.
